Bratto
At almost 900 metres above sea level, located along the road to the Brattello Pass, the village of Bratto is the highest in the Pontremoli valley. Although it once hosted a large community, today it becomes populated only at the end of winter. In the past, some of the many families who settled in this area, seeking fortune, found hospitality in England, where over time they established a true colony.
Despite the many migrations from these regions, the attachment to these villages remains very strong. In Bratto, for example, the community showed great solidarity and determination in raising the necessary funds for the complete renovation of the church of St. George. Thus, in June 1919, the first stone was laid, and the church was expanded, thanks also to the contributions of the Bratto community that was living in England at the time. The church was solemnly inaugurated in September 1925. Inside the building, one can still admire the skill of the local craftsmen, as everything is covered in expertly worked sandstone blocks.
Over time, the people of Bratto have maintained their extraordinary craftsmanship, particularly in woodworking: the most famous item is the cradle, but their production included all objects of daily life.
