Casalina

Located on a plateau overlooking the confluence of the Magra River and the Civasola stream, right in the centre of the Valdantena valley, lies the small village of Casalina, an ancient and important road junction.

Even today, the Via Francigena still passes through this village, which can be spotted from afar thanks to its tall bell tower with a traditional red brick dome, built in 1850 and unique in its kind.

Along this route, Casalina certainly boasted an undeniable position as a crossroads to and from other destinations, as well as a rest stop for those travelling the mule track.

At one time, the Valdantena valley was undoubtedly populated, as the parish, which also included nearby villages, had nearly 800 inhabitants. Over the years, however, this number has declined due to depopulation and migration.
