Groppo del Vescovo
The Groppo del Vescovo is one of the most curious and picturesque places in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennine ridge. Located between the Cisa Pass and the Cirone Pass, this asymmetrical rocky ridge is composed of layers of white and grey limestone.
The Tuscan side is steep and rugged, resembling a “petrified white wave” that stands out sharply against the grassy and regular slopes of the Upper Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, surrounded by beautiful pastures and beech forests.
The Groppo del Vescovo can be reached on foot via the GEA 00 ridge trail, which connects the Cisa Pass to the Cirone Pass. By car (an off-road vehicle is recommended), you can take the road from the village of Gravagna leading to the hamlet of Montale, passing the sports field and continuing towards the high pastures of Prato del Monte and Case Franchi.
