Mount Cucchero

The stretch of the Via Francigena that descends from the Righedo Pass toward the Valdantena valley offers breathtaking scenery along the ridge of Monte Cucchero. From this natural terrace, one can admire a panorama that spans from the Cisa Pass to the Groppo del Vescovo, all the way to the massif of Monte Orsaro and the Magra valley floor.

In this symbolic place, a small bell tower has recently been built, thanks to the efforts of numerous local volunteers. At its base, the names of the localities Cargalla, Cavezzana d’Antena, La Cisa, Gravagna Montale, Gravagna San Rocco, Montelungo, Pracchiola, Succisa, and Valdantena are displayed prominently.

The bell tower, about four metres high, is made of sandstone and is a scaled replica of the bell tower of the village of Gravagna San Rocco, symbolising unity and sharing among the many communities that still keep these mountains alive today.
