Succisa

Succisa is a village divided into several hamlets that dot the Magriola Valley, just upstream from Pontremoli, in a well-exposed area rich in chestnut groves, small cultivated fields, pastures, and alpine areas. Here, as in most villages of Lunigiana, there are many stories of emigration, as well as tales of devotion, such as the one related to St. Zita, whose birthplace is still contested between Lucca and, indeed, Succisa. In Colla, an ancient location where her humble family home was located, the first chapel was built in 1882, later transformed into the current oratory, in whose apse there is a beautiful marble image of the Saint.
