The Groppodalosio Bridge

The Groppodalosio Bridge is today one of the most scenic spots along the entire Italian Via Francigena. Originally built to connect the routes leading to the Cisa and Cirone passes, it safely crosses the rapids of the upper Magra River. This large bridge, with a single arch made of cobblestones and hewn stones, rests on two solid spurs of sandstone rock. The structure dates back to 1572, and its summit reaches a height of over 16 metres above the river level.

The Groppodalosio Bridge can be reached from both banks of the Magra River through the villages of Groppodalosio Inferiore and Casalina, with an easy walk through dry-stone walls, terraced olive groves, and chestnut orchards.
