Palazzo Maracchi

Palazzo Maracchi presents itself with its splendid portal with volutes “in perspective” which invites you to travel through the depths of the spaces beyond the facade; through the entrance hall it is possible to access the elegant porticoed courtyard and the staircase that serves the two levels of the house. The main floor consists of precious vaulted rooms that make up a veritable anthology of Pontremoli Baroque painting. In the frescoes made by the skilful hand of Natali and Antonio Contestabili we find the theme of squaring easily found in the other churches and residences of the village. Of extraordinary workmanship are the medallions of the vaults and the painted panels above each door that represent seascapes, fantastic spaces skilfully frescoed.

«In this house, inserted in a decorative complex by Antonio Contestabili, there is a small alcove whose decoration, due to stylistic characteristics, must be attributed to Francesco Natali who probably executed it in these years. The quadrature, which embraces a medallion with figures of angels is maintained in the iconographic context of the works already mentioned and through a series of volutes and overhangs it has the function of lightening the very low and somewhat limited ceiling. We must say that the intention is fully realized thanks above all to the simplicity of the lines and the smoothness and delicacy of the colours.
