Palazzo Pizzati
Palazzo Pizzati, built in the 18th century, easily recognizable by its elaborate portal, is located in the Imoborgo district, at the end of Via Cavour, a street overlooked by numerous historic houses of great importance. The building has an internal courtyard in which it is possible to admire the well and an inlaid wooden door which bears the Pizzati family crest on the pediment. The peristyle of the entrance hall leads to an elegant staircase with a marble balustrade decorated with ovals containing busts.
The noble floor has vaulted rooms beautifully frescoed by the famous artist Antonio Contestabili: the hall and the two adjacent rooms are decorated with “quadratura” frescoes according to the pictorial style in vogue at the time. Here the Contestabili created architectures painted within a rigorous illusionistic perspective framework, taking up the stylistic features of the design and decorative expedients such as flowers, shells and volute overhangs from his uncle Giovan Battista Natali.
